The Green Upgrade 📈

You’ve seen it in lattes, desserts, smoothies… and on every wellness influencer’s feed.

Rooted in ancient Japanese tea ceremonies, matcha has taken over the modern world. 🌍️

But it isn’t just trendy - it’s ancient, powerful, and packed with more benefits than your average cup of tea.

So what exactly is matcha?

And is it worth the hype? 👀

Let’s break it down. 👇

Green Tea on Steroids 💊

What is matcha?

Matcha is a vibrant green powder derived from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant.

Commonly cultivated in Japan and China, it has a unique taste that is a little sweeter and smoother than other teas. 🍵

How does it get produced?

Matcha is grown in the shade for about 3 weeks before harvest, boosting its chlorophyll and antioxidant levels.

The leaves are then steamed to prevent oxidation (to stay green) and stone-ground into powder. 💚

Matcha vs. Green Tea

Matcha and green tea derive from the same plant - just like white, black, and yellow tea. ☘️

The difference lies in how they’re grown and processed.

Matcha is more concentrated than green tea and has a grassy, umami flavor, with sweet and bitter undertones.

What are the benefits of consuming matcha?

Matcha is known to

  • prevent diseases 😷

  • help combat depression 😢

  • boost brain function 🧠

  • improve fertility 👶

  • reduce blood pressure 🩸

  • protect bone health 🦴

  • promote weight loss ⚖️

  • support our cells 🦠

👩‍🍳 Chef Tip: You don’t need to sip matcha daily to enjoy its benefits. It can be consumed in a variety of ways to make it even tastier. 😉

7 Ways to Enjoy Matcha 🍵

Let’s be real:

You probably won’t have a tea ceremony every day!

However, you can enjoy matcha in other ways!

Here are 7 simple and delicious ways to add matcha to your life. 👇

  • Smoothies - Blend it with fruits, (plant-based) milk, nuts, and a scoop of protein for a creamy energy boost 🔋

  • Pancakes - Add matcha to your batter to make them (look) healthier 😉

  • Overnight oats - Prep the night before with chia seeds, fruits, and plant-based milk for a bright start to your day ☀️

  • Energy Balls - Mix with oats, dates, nut butter, and a touch of honey for an easy snack.

  • Bowls - Stir into yogurt or smoothie bowls and top with granola and berries 🥣

  • Cookies or cakes - A sweet treat with a subtle earthy kick 🌲

  • Ice cream - Creamy, cooling, and just the right amount of bittersweet.

Why did the matcha cake go to therapy?

It was feeling crumbled.
